Fri, 26 Sep 2008 Welcome Back Pack 722! It’s Frank Polischuk (Joshua’s Dad) looking forward to having a great year with all the returning Wolves. For those who don’t remember me, I was lucky enough to head up the Blue and Gold Event last Spring, and man that was a great time. My summer was awesome and I hope you all had a great vacation with your families and friends. I also hope everyone is getting all psyched up for the coming year with the Cubs…and of course checking their list of all the right people to hit up for popcorn, popcorn and more popcorn! What a great event to get the year off to a great start! Well, I look forward to seeing you in the fall, after all it is my favorite season of the year. I can’t think of a better time to start on my first year heading up the Wolf Den. See you all soon! Sun, 11 Feb 2007The Wolf Den had a great time making birdhouses at the Mottl Cabinets workshop. The boys used a drill press, cordless drills, hammers, screws and nails to make some impressive condos for our feathered friends!
The boys of the Wolf Den are proud to have earned their Bobcat Badge! We've also been getting a head start on our achievements. In our first den meeting, we performed the Feats of Skill: an obstacle course, balance beam, tumbling tricks, and lots of running around. Special thanks to Neil Williams for organizing our fitness course! We've also talked about respecting our American flag, and learned how to fold it. We'd also like to thank Ryan Allocco for helping out at our den meetings -- these boys have plenty of energy!
What a crazy few months we have had! We had lots of fun completing our Wolf badge and working on several Academics and Sports belt loops. In January we learned about what life would be like if we didn’t have music and the cubs sang a few song’s including “The Cub Scout Spirit Song” (very similar to Greenwood Spirit) accompanied by our home made instruments. We also learned about our state and national flags and made our own table top flag. In February we focused on the Solar System and Computers. We made apple aliens and a model of the planets and each scout made a personalized valentine for their parents on the computer.
We learned about birds and our environment and made birdfeeders out of recycled bottles as well as peanut butter pine cones. Unfortunately, we didn’t see as many birds enjoying the food in our birdfeeders as we would have liked. As a group we used our best teamwork and creativity to make a leprechaun trap to lure the little creature, once again, to become rich by stealing his pot of gold. Unfortunately, we were outsmarted but this year he dropped his cell phone and water bottle.
In April we learned about science in the dirt and rocks. We examined rocks and the different layers of soil and focused on the food chain and what happens if one of the links is broken. We made a “wormery” (two worms added to layers of dirt and sand in a jar). Within a week the worms have done their job as part of the food chain and mixed up all the sand and dirt. The greatest excitement was the appearance of an Opossum in the back yard (eating our peanut butter pine cones!) as we were planting some radishes and sunflowers indoors. Our plants are growing out of control and are more than ready to get planted out doors.
At our December den meetings, we were both charitable and celebratory. We made cookies and brought them to the fire fighters at the Greenwood Fire Station. We caught them just returning from a call. We got a chance to chance to take a quick tour of the fire engine and all left wearing fire hats. We also made ornaments and sand glass sand art for Christmas gifts. We decorated wrapping paper and wrapped our presents. We also played a holiday bean bag toss and a pie plate toss. At the December Pack meeting, the boys received the Toward the Ranks badge and 2 beads representing 6 achievements completed. We so proud to be halfway! Welcome Tighe Beck into our den! He worked hard over school vacation and is all caught up. He completed the Bob Cat Trail and several Wolf Trail achievements. We are looking forward to incorporating the Academics and Athletics Achievement program in 2006.
The Wolves have been working hard and having a lot of fun! We all completed the Bobcat trail and are working on completing the 12 achievements of the Wolf trail. We talked all about ways to keep ourselves and our families safe and made a leather belt pouch first aid kit. We focused a lot on trees. We labeled tree leaves with all the things we are thankful for. We did some good old fasioned leaf tracings. We completed family trees and learned about the Skeldon and Hiller heritage -- some dating back to the 1500's! We told each other who our favorite person in our family is and explained our own personal collections to each other -- lot's of Pokemon cards! We learned all about the Food Pyramid and played "Go Fish" with a deck of "food group" cards. We made recipe holders just in time for Thanksgiving and completed the "Feats of Skill" having fun while learning how to keep our bodies healthy. Over the next few weeks, the Wolves will be very busy helping their parents. They will complete a job chart and keep track of their health habits. They will also plan a days worth of meals and will prepare one full meal from beginning to end (including clean up!) |
