Hi Pack 722 Families,
We are excited to announce our June 27th Pack trip to Georges Island! This will be a full-day adventure exploring one of Boston Harbor’s most historic islands, including Fort Warren, trails, and waterfront views.
This is a great opportunity for scouts to experience history and outdoor exploration together as a pack.
Trip Overview
We will be traveling to Georges Island via the ferry out of Boston. Below is the tentative schedule for the day:
08:00 AM – Depart Wakefield (carpooling and public transit encouraged)
09:20 AM – Group meet-up near the ferry ticket booth at Long Wharf (exact spot TBD)
09:30 AM – Boarding begins
10:00 AM – Ferry departs for Georges Island (please be on time)
10:45 AM – Arrive and begin exploring Fort Warren and the island
12:30 PM – Bring your own Lunch and TBD group photo
02:30 PM – Regroup at dock for return boarding
03:00 PM – Ferry departs back to Boston
03:45 PM – Arrive back at Long Wharf
What to Expect on the Island
Once we arrive, scouts will have time to explore Georges Island and Fort Warren, a historic Civil War–era fort with open areas, tunnels, and great views of the harbor. Families and scouts will have time to explore together as a pack, in smaller groups, or individually with their families.
The island is part of the Boston Harbor Islands National and State Park system and offers several family-friendly self-guided activities, including the Georges Island Junior Ranger Program. Scouts can explore the island, complete activities in the Junior Ranger booklet, and may even earn an official Junior Ranger badge from a park ranger. What to Bring
Please plan for a full outdoor day and pack your 6 essentials! Recommended items include:
Packed lunch (bring your own – no food available on the island)
Water bottle
Comfortable walking shoes (lots of uneven paths and fort areas)
Weather-appropriate clothing (light layers recommended)
Hat, sunscreen
Flashlight or headlamp recommended for exploring darker areas of Fort Warren
Optional: bug spray, light rain jacket
