Pack Sledding Day - it’s a go!

Hey all! I just had our oldest run over to Doyle and try a run this morning. It is packed pretty good, with a bit of powder on top… and most importantly it was fast!! Even though it's a bit thin, he thought it was fun. So, I say it's a go! Nothing too fancy… everyone just show up with a sled, or tube, or whatever you want to go down the hill onπŸ˜€

Doyle Early Childhood Center
(781) 246-6420

We'll say 1-2pm, but, of course you can be there for as long as you're having fun. You can park along the sidewalk, or in the lot… typically parking is a non-issue.

Have a blast!!

Pack Sledding Day

Hey all! Just wanted to send a quick email about sledding tomorrow. It doesn't look like stellar conditions on the ground at Doyle. It's thin, and pretty icy. Which, on one hand is great for speed. But less great when you bail off the sled πŸ˜€I'll send an email to confirm tomorrow, but it doesn't look really likely.

Based on the weather for tomorrow,  the best chance I think will be 1-2pm is going to be the best window to get it in. It could allow for some accumulation to happen (1-3 inches).

I'll send out the final word in the morning.

Hi Everyone,

I have some summer camp updates to share, but the most important is to register your interest by Feb 28th: https://forms.gle/pWynAzxd3kLsZxFv6

We have until March 31st to register for the early bird discount and want to know how many kids are going to coordinate adult coverage.

What: 4 nights of Overnight Scout Camp (*optional 5th night for current 4th graders)
When: July 16th to 20th (Sunday around noon - Thursday around dinner)
Where: Camp Carpenter - Manchester, NH (less than an hour)
Who: All scouts not moving up to the troop in April. Kids that are graduating kindergarten this year (Lions) will be moving up to Tigers next year and can go with a parent for a discounted joint rate.
Cost: $530 per scout (before 3/15, $550 after). $230 per adult. Tiger pair is $680 for a tiger scout + adult.

Adult Leadership - Myself, Mike Festa, and James Maier went last year and will be running the trip this year. We are looking for additional parents that would like to join us for the week. Please let me know if you are interested. The total number of adults will be based on the number of scouts and should be around 1 per 4 scouts, not including tiger parents. If you would like to come, but cannot stay the entire week, we are allowed to rotate out adults and can coordinate as we get closer.

Fwd: Amazing Overnight Experience Opportunities

Just a reminder, we have one week left for sign ups.  Money is due at the Derby check in.

Pinewood Derby Events

Scouts . . . Start Your Engines!!! Derby Day is Fast Approaching!

Hello Pack 722,

Pre-Race Day Car Workshop - Wednesday, March 1st - 6:30-8:00PM @ First Parish Congregational Church in the Basement

Once again this year, we are offering an evening to get some help finishing off your cars in regards to attaching the wheels and getting the car to weight. No painting at this workshop. A few scout leaders with years of experience working on these cars will be on hand to offer their advice and provide some tools/jigs to help get your cars ready for race day. Please note the location above - the stone church by the lake!

Additionally, the owner of Hobby Bunker on Albion Street in Wakefield has reached out to the Pack and graciously offered a 20% discount for any of your pinewood derby painting needs. Please support our local Wakefield businesses!

Weigh In - Friday, March 3rd - 6-8:00PM @ Wakefield-Lynnfield United Methodist Church (No Early Check-Ins)

To help keep things moving and hopefully not get too big of a queue, we are assigning time slots by rank for check-in.  If you have multiple scouts, feel free to come to just one of the time slots for one of your scouts with your whole crew. Prior to arriving, please write your scout's name, den #, and the year (2023) on the bottom of the car with a sharpie/marker. Additionally, have your scout choose a name for their car!

Lions/Tigers: 6:00

Wolf: 6:20

Bear: 6:45

Webelos: 7:05

AOL: 7:30

All family cars must be checked on Friday night as well. No cars will be allowed to be checked in on Saturday, March 4th (derby day).  All cars will be kept overnight at the church.  If you personally cannot attend the weigh in, please give your car to someone who can check it in for you AND who you trust to modify the car if it does not pass inspection initially.  No uniforms are required for check-in.

No car can weigh more than 5 ounces. The Pack uses one scale to record the official weight. All cars are checked in using that one scale to keep things even.  We will have a few tools and graphite to make minor adjustments to your cars if necessary.

Best in Show

We will be sending out a link to a virtual voting system late Friday night/early Saturday morning to choose the Pack Best in Show.  All voting must be recorded by midnight on Sunday, March 5th. For those of you that are new, Best in Show is chosen by the scouts from the cars that have won Best in Den, as chosen by the scout leaders.

Derby Day - Saturday, March 4th @ Wakefield-Lynnfield United Methodist Church

Our race will be in person and virtual this year. Class A uniforms are required for scouts attending the race. The link for the virtual presentation of the races will be sent out during the week leading up to the derby for you to share with your family and friends that might want to watch from near or afar.

Races are held by rank. We encourage scouts to come a bit early and watch the races ahead of their race. Even if you cannot attend derby day, your car can race!
