We are so excited to be able to offer the chance for Pack 722 (including our Pack 712 friends) to go to summer resident camp at Camarpenter in Manchester, New Hampshire.

Our week of camp will be June 26th through June 30th.  Leaders, Jessica Belyea and either Brad or Julie Wagner, have volunteered to go.  The cost will be $550 at this time, but is subject to change once we know how many are going.  If the only reason you cannot attend is due to financial restrictions, please let us know as there are potential scholarships available.

If you would like to join us, please know these important dates.

By 01/31/2022 - Fill out the attached form https://forms.gle/CehY8HpNHTQFnRev5  Please fill it out for each person who will be attending - scout or adult.

By 03/04/2022 - Bring your deposit of $100 to the Pinewood Derby Checkin in an envelope.

Pinewood Derby 2022!

Hello Pack 722,

Attached you will find the Pinewood Derby Rules.  Please review the rules carefully.  If you have any questions, please first go to your den leader.  If additional information is needed, please let us know.  

At weigh in, if your scout's car does not meet one of the requirements, we will ask you to fix it prior to being allowed to finalize check in on Friday night.  These rules are important so that everyone is on an equal playing field.  In addition, should you win for your rank level, you will then be able to move on to Districts and potentially Nationals.

Pinewood Derby Car Cutting Shops

While we canceled our originally planned workshop, there are opportunities to get assistance with car cutting for those that would like to receive some assistance and/or do not have the tools.

Sunday, January 30th - Eric Savage's (Pack 712 Parent) Garage - 25 Tobey Lane from 10-2.   This is for both 712 and 722 scouts.

The Scout Shop in Woburn is able to cut cars (initial rough cuts) and are running hours most days from now through March 1st. Saturdays, 10AM-3PM and Mon-Fri, 10AM-5PM.

Ideally, your scout should have a design in mind already.  The car will not be finished at these shops but you will get a head start on it with the initial (and larger) cuts.

If you did not receive your pinewood kit at the Pack Meeting, check with your Den Leader so we can get it to you.  For anyone interested in racing in the family race, we do have a few extra kits available for sale or you can purchase one at the Scout Shop.

Weigh In

The Derby Weigh-In will be in the evening on Friday, March 4th.  Time information will follow but please note - no cars will be allowed to be checked in on Saturday, March 5th (Derby Day).  All cars will be kept overnight at the church.  If you personally cannot attend the weigh in, please give your car to someone who can check it in for you.  No Uniforms are required for weigh in.

No car can weigh more than 5 ounces. The Pack uses one scale to record the Official weight. All cars are checked in using that one scale to keep things even.  We will have a few tools and graphite to make minor adjustments to your cars if necessary.  

Derby Day

Our Annual Derby will be held at the Church on Saturday, March 5th.  We have not yet determined whether or not we will be able to hold the derby in-person.  If we decide we will not be doing the derby in-person, we will hold a virtual derby and live-stream the racing action from the church, just as we did last year.  If we do proceed with the Derby in-person, it is a Class A uniform event.  Either way, we will set a schedule by rank for scouts and families to either show-up at the church OR tune-in virtually to the live-stream.

Pack 722 Updates

Hello Pack 722,

With the ongoing surge in COVID, the pack committee has determined it is best to proceed with caution and for that reason, we are canceling the January Pack meeting originally scheduled for this coming Thursday.  HOWEVER, the folks from Camp Carpenter up in New Hampshire want to meet us all on Zoom (See meeting invite below) so that we all can learn about a week at summer camp.  The Pack has already reserved the week of June 26-30th (Sunday through Thursday).  I know the group that went up last summer had a great time.  Scouts who go, in addition to all the fun and great experiences they will have, will complete some requirements towards their next rank and earn some shooting sports awards.  Please join us this Thursday (January 20th) evening at 7:00PM on Zoom - see invite below.

In Pinewood Derby news, the usual workshop at Mr. Pothier's house is canceled due to a hectic weekend schedule for Mr. Pothier and the cautious approach we are taking to the pandemic.  If you need assistance with your car, please reach out to your den leader or anyone in a Pack leadership role and we can assist in finding a resource you can use to work on your car.  We do want to point out that the Scout Shop in Woburn is able to cut cars (initial rough cuts) and are running hours most days from now through March 1st; Saturdays, 10AM-3PM and Mon-Fri, 10AM-5PM.

Another email will be coming with Pinewood Derby details such as rules, schedule, etc.  We do run a family race in addition to the scouts racing, so any sibling, parents, etc. that want to build a car, they can put their efforts into a car of their own that can run on race day!  Pinewood derby car kits can be purchased from the Scout Shop.  The Pack does have a few extra car kits that we offer for $5 per kit, as well, though we have very limited supply.
