Pinewood Derby District Championships -  Cheer on Our Scouts!

March 23, 2024

Join us for an exciting event as we cheer on our scouts who have qualified for the District Derby at the United Methodist Church in Wakefield. Winners will have the chance to compete at the National Derby!

Location: United Methodist Church, 273 Vernon St., Wakefield

  • Lions: 9:00 AM

  • Webelos I: 1:00 PM

  • Webelos 2/AOL: 2:00 PM


This will be both a live and virtual event. A link will be emailed out to the pack a day or so in advance

Pack Meeting: Take it Apart Night!
April 12th, 6:30pm to 7:30pm 

Join us for an evening of hands-on exploration and discovery at our Take it Apart Night! We'll take things apart, figure out how they work, and then put them back together in interesting and creative ways. Bring along any old toys, small appliances, or electronics you no longer need, and let's dive into the world of engineering.

Got any junk lying around that you want to get rid of? We need things to take apart! Toasters, mixers, blenders, phones, radios, typewriters, computers, VCRs, tape players, kitchen faucets, speakers… Items don't have to be operable, but please, no CRTs, toxic materials, or anything too greasy or oily (no gas engines) .


What to bring:

  • Safety glasses 

  • Screwdriver

  • Pliers

  • Any other tools you can think of…

  • Use masking tape to label your tools with your name or initials

Spring Campout at New England Base Camp in Milton, MA!

June 1st - June 2nd

A weekend of adventure awaits us at New England Base Camp in Milton, MA! Get ready for exciting program activities like Archery, BB Gun Range, Rock Climbing, and more!


Details:

  • Date: Saturday, June 1st - Sunday, June 2nd

  • Location: Blue Hills Reservation, 411 Unquity Rd, Milton, MA 02186. Link to Map

  • Parent or Guardian Required: Yes, unless specific arrangements have been made with the Pack

  • Food and Meals: The Pack will provide optional dinner; please see the form below.

  • Program Activities: Absolutely! We'll have Archery, BB Gun Range, Rock Climbing, and more!

  • Pool: You bet! The pool is booked! Don't forget your bathing suit. All Scouts must pass an onsite swim test.

Camp Carpenter Sleep Away Camp

July 7th to July 11 

 

Get ready for summertime adventures – Camp Carpenter! Nestled on the outskirts of Manchester, New Hampshire, Camp Carpenter offers a 250-acre wooded escape, serving as the Daniel Webster Council's Cub Scout Summer Camp and the home of Granite Base Camp.


Save the Date: Sunday, July 7th to Thursday, July 11th 2024 (Stay tuned for additional information in upcoming newsletters)

Location: Manchester, New Hampshire

Activities: Archery, arts and crafts, BB gun shooting sports, field sports, nature exploration, scout skills,  Fort Friendship, Pirates Cove, and the Indian Village.

Community Opportunities for Scouts 

Saturday, March 9th, 2024 - Maple Sugarin' Program at Breakheart Reservation 

Join the friends of Breakheart Reservation in Saugus this Saturday! Visitors will have the opportunity to learn all about the process of producing maple syrup firsthand.

Program Highlights:
Learn about the history and process of maple sugaring at four different stations

Discover how Native Americans began extracting maple sugar and how the process has evolved over time 

See how to identify and tap maple trees to extract sap

Explore the evaporator, which boils the sap to produce syrup

Watch a demonstration of how to cut wood using a two-person saw

 Fun and educational experience for visitors of all ages!

The BIG EVENT: Pinewood Derby info (ZOOM link & Times Below)




Race Day:  

The racing kicks off at 9 am and wraps up by 2 pm, with winners and trophies announced at the end of each round. There will also be baked goods and hotdogs courtesy the UMC volunteers.  

Date and Location: Saturday March 2nd at the UMC 273 Vernon St, Wakefield

Lions 9:00 - 9:45am

Tigers 9:45 - 10:30am

Wolves 10:30 - 11:30am

Bears 11:30 - 12:00pm

Webelos 12:00 - 12:30pm

AOL 12:30 – 1:30pm

Family Race/ Leader Race 1:30pm

Dress: Class A uniforms
