Spirit of '76 Hike - Sunday, June 25 11:00am

Our next event is this Sunday, June 25 at 11:00am

Spirit of '76 Trail

The purpose of the 2 mile loop trail is to tell the story the towns people of Marblehead played in the Revolutionary War.  This is a self guided walking tour of downtown Marblehead that starts at Abbot Hall.   Abbot Hall is the present day Town Hall of Marblehead and doubles as a historical museum that we can tour, free of charge, to start the hike.  There are 15 points of interest to see on the hike and a 17 questionnaire to complete.  We will see historical houses, an old Fort, an old burial ground for revolutionary soldiers and learn of pirates, ghosts and witch craft.   We ask that all scouts and leaders are to be in class A uniforms for the hike.

Directions:

Via Route 128 and 114......Follow Rt. 114 south through Salem to Marblehead.  After entering Marblehead you will come to a fire station on your right at a traffic light (corner of Pleasant St. and Ocean Ave). There is a sign here directing you to Route 129.  Turn right at this light onto Ocean Ave, then take your first left onto Atlantic Ave. (also a traffic light intersection) and follow this road directly into town.   The road bears left and comes to an intersection which is Washington Street.   Take a right onto Washington Street, go up the hill bearing left to stay on Washington Street and follow the historical signs to Abbot Hall at the top of the hill.  The address is 188 Washington Street.   There is parking all around Abbot Hall and in the abutting neighborhoods but watch the parking signs.  Abbot Hall is the start of the Trail.

We will meet at 11am in front of Abbot Hall.   Bring hiking boots or sneakers, water and snack/lunch and water.  There should be 3 public restrooms available for us to use along the way.

Additionally, we will be marching in this year's 4th of July Parade. More information on that soon, but if you're around, please have your scouts join in. It's a fun time.
