TROOP 701 TO WELCOME GIRLS TO SCOUTS BSA PROGRAM Informational Meeting to be held on April 30 Wakefield Troop 701 is pleased to announce that it plans to welcome girls who want to join the Scouts BSA program. The troop will be open to all girls ages 11 to 17.
An informational meeting will be held for all girls and their parents or guardians on Tuesday, April 30 at 7 p.m. at the First Parish Congregational Church. All youth and adults interested in learning more about the Scouts BSA program are invited to attend.
As of February 1, 2019, the Boy Scouts of America launched a program to allow girls to join troops and engage in the same scouting program as boys. This will enable girls to earn the highest rank of Eagle Scout. Girls will enjoy the same curriculum and the same program as boys. The girls will be in a girl-led troop with its own Scoutmaster, but will otherwise share the same resources as the boy-led troop. The new program is called Scouts BSA, and will enable girls to enjoy the same activities that boy scouts have engaged in for more than 108 years, to deliver character development and values-based leadership training. The mission of Scouts BSA is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Scout Law. The girls will run the same Scouting program, earn the same merit badges, and achieve the same ranks, up to and including the highest rank of Eagle Scout.
Troop 701 is chartered to the First Parish Congregational Church, the stone church by the Lake, at One Church Street in Wakefield. For further information about the troop please visit www.troop701wakefield.org. Questions can be emailed to troop701wakefield@gmail.com.
